PS3 on course to meet sales target
Sales figures for the PS3 are on course to meet the fiscal year target of 13 million, according to Jack Tretton, chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment of America.
It has been a good year for Sony with a price drop and the release of the Slim model sparking a large upsurge in sales from September. The number of units sold on week 36 was up 999% from week 35. It just goes to show the difference a competitive pricing point can make.
Tretton is quoted on Reuters as being confident about the PS3′s current sales position.
“Based on the numbers 10 months in, I would say that we are extremely confident in those numbers. We have got very aggressive build plans for 2010 as well, so I think (this year) we will have very positive comparisons against 2009.”
Earlier this month, Sony said they were struggling to keep with demands and warned of tight supply over the coming months. They better get building quickly if they plan to better 13 million for the next fiscal year.
