Sonic Team not developing Sonic 4?

Submitted by on Thursday, 18 February 2010No Comment

A fair few people rejoiced when SEGA unvield Sonic 4 as an old skool 2D platformer – but if certain websites are to be believed, Sonic Team aren’t actually developing it.  Have SEGA finally had enough?

The games listing at has it being developed by Osaka based company – Dimps.

Dimps are well known for creating the Sonic Rush and Sonic Advance games, which we think are some of the best Sonic games in recent memory.

Of course, some Sonic fans aren’t very happy.  Over on the Sonic 4 forum, Assistant Community Manager – ‘RubyEclipse’ – has been repeatedly asked for confirmation about this matter.  So far the response has been;

“Let me check with the powers that be and find out if we can make an official statement for you guys.

Until then, nothing official from me just yet, sorry.”

Team Attitude have also contacted SEGA for comments, but as of yet things remain quiet.  We smell an announcement fairly soon though.

So what’s the verdict on Dimps?  Are they qualified to take the lead on such a big game?

Let us break it down further.  In the last few years Sonic Team have brought us;

  • Sonic Unleashed
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (the remake)
  • Shadow the Hedgehog

Dimps have brought us;

  • Sonic Advance games
  • Sonic Rush games
  • The co-development of Street Fighter IV
  • Some of the day time levels of Sonic Unleashed
  • Various Dragonball Z games

We know who we prefer.
