Split/Second renamed and dated

Submitted by on Wednesday, 24 February 20102 Comments

Disney and Black Rock’s upcoming racer – Split/Second – has been slated for a European release date of May 21st.  It’s also been given a tune up in the name department – say hello to Split/Second: Velocity.

Team Attitude is really stoked about this game.  Many people are describing it as a cross between Burnout and a Michael Bay film (in a good way!).

Split/Second: Velocity is a racer with a twist.  If you drive well – by a combination of drifting, slip streaming, jumping and near misses – you build up a three-stage power bar, each segment of which allows you to set off an explosion, which is called a powerplay.  These powerplays interfere with your opponents, by dropping objects like radio towers on them.  Other explosions alter the track layout, bringing a slice of strategy into this increasingly tasty looking pie.  Do you smash your opponent or change the track and take a shortcut?

These powerplays are epic, and dare we say that they have the best explosions we have seen in any game.  Don’t believe us?  Check out the video below, and then wait patiently until May.
