Heavy Rain Birmingham Launch

Submitted by on Monday, 1 March 2010No Comment

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, you’ll probably have caught the Heavy Rain launch on Friday.

If you didn’t, then its your lucky day, because we attended one.

While we were there, we took some photos and video coverage which should give you an idea of what it was like.

The event took place at Gamestation in Birmingham, where promotional people manned tents containing a sizeable screen, a copy of the game and some nice chairs where people could play and watch the game in action.

The main purpose of a launch like this one is to get people to play the game before they buy it, allowing them to make a more informed decision about whether they like it or not.┬áNaturally, Sony wouldn’t do this unless they were absolutely positive that the game would sell, which of course it did.

"So, its called Heavy Rain..." "But we're inside?"

Throughout the day, we managed to speak to a great number of people; some who came in out of curiosity, some who had been waiting for months on end and even one person who called in sick just to buy the game! Strangely, he declined an interview.

"Can I have a go?" "No."

There were also freebies for people who stepped into the tent; a large poster of the four main characters and an origami kit, allowing you to make the origami figure featured in the game. These disappeared fairly quickly, but not before we grabbed one!

"Careful, they'll peck your eyes out at 500 metres and eat the rest for dessert."

All in all, the day was a success. People played, watched, discussed and of course, bought. It was good to see such a unique game get the same level of promotion as something like Uncharted 2, which will hopefully improve the chances of other games like this being made. If the future of gaming is this, then count us in!

"Er... whats the game called again?"

If you liked this, then PS3 Attitude will be covering the launch of God of War 3 At Gamestation in Birmingham on March 19th!
