Sony trademark ‘PlayStation Arc’

Submitted by on Tuesday, 2 March 20103 Comments

New evidence has emerged that Sony are planning to name its new motion sensing controller as “PlayStation Arc.” The latest evidence comes via Siliconera, who spotted that Sony Computer Entertainment Japan had filed a trademark for the title.

Sony regularly file trademarks with little intention of using them but there appears to be substance behind this speculation.

Last month VG247 reported that Brian Farrell, THQ’s chief executive made a slip during a THQ conference by calling the controller Arc on two occasions. The incident was played down by Patrick Seybold the following day on Twitter. The Sony spokesperson claimed that Farrell simply “referred to it as a rumored code name.”

Sony are expected to reveal new information regarding the Motion Controller/PlayStation Arc at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next week.

An official confirmation of its name will hopefully be announced. It seems inevitable that the controller will eventually be announced as Arc.
