Square Enix to consider Final Fantasy VII remake
Yoichi Wada, President and CEO of Square Enix, has said that the company will sit down and consider the possibility of a remake to the hugely popular Final Fantasy VII.
It sounds like Square Enix are finally starting to listen to the barrage of requests from fans who want to relive the epic RPG in HD.
Wada disclosed the information during an interview with Siliconera.
“Right now we don’t have a clear direction, but many fans have requested we remake Final Fantasy VII. We’re going to explore the possibility – whether or not we’re going to do it, if we’re going to do it, and the platform.”
It may only be a consideration at this point, but it is the latest example of a leading player speaking about the possibility of a remake. It’s certainly a lot more optimistic than the flat-out denials that fans have had to endure over the years.
Wada must wonder how long Square Enix can continue to swim against the tide, when even at their launch party for Final Fantasy XIII – their major release – they are being asked about a Final Fantasy VII remake.
