Test Drive Unlimited 2 announced
The game is described as Massively Open Online Racing (see what we did there?).
Fans of the original will remember the massive island you were tasked with exploring – it was so big that driving around it at 120mph took over an hour.
You were allowed to chose a persona, buy different sets of clothes and of course, peruse through the dozens of car and bike showrooms checking out the latest shiny metal.
The big hook was that the population of this island was comprised of actual people. If you came across anyone you simply had to flash your lights to initiate a race.
So far what we’ve heard points to much of the same – but thats no bad thing.
Jeff Lapin, CEO of Atari, SA had the following to say;
“After the highly successful Test Drive Unlimited which redefined the genre with massively open online racing, Test Drive Unlimited 2 will be an innovative evolution in racing games, expanding its unparalleled multiplayer experience and immersing players in a world full of new online content and lifestyle customization.
The game fits squarely into our strategy of moving online and generating new revenue streams while maintaining our current retail business.”
This is great news, and as long as they can fix the slightly wonky car physics, it will be a blast.
2010 is looking good for car lovers.
