Square Enix has brought up the topic of monsters when talking about Final Fantasy XIV – and it seems some familiar faces will be making a return.

Do we cheer or run away in terror?

The game – which has entered BETA testing – will be coming out on the PS3 later this year, and has many fans excited – especially those who claim XIII was too linear.

The games art director, Akihiko Yoshida, had the following to say;

“We are attempting to achieve a development process that takes full advantage of the know-how obtained from Final Fantasy XI while also improving on its shortcomings.

Given the differences in the game worlds, there will be no direct transplants from FFXIII. However, players can expect to see some of the classic monsters from the Final Fantasy series making an appearance, a number of which will be undergoing a makeover from FFXI.”
