Firmware v3.21 is live

Submitted by on Thursday, 1 April 2010One Comment

The firmware update that removes the Other OS feature is now available. Yay…

Yeah this isn’t an update that most people want, but it’s up now. This update is required if you want to access the PlayStation Network.

If you currently have Linux on your PS3 you will lose your files after this update. It’s best that you back up any data that you want to keep. If you have a Slim PS3 or never installed Linux, you have nothing to worry about.

If you don’t update, here is what you lose:

  • Ability to sign in to PlayStation Network and use network features that require signing in to PlayStation Network, such as online features of PS3 games and chat
  • Playback of PS3 software titles or Blu-ray Disc videos that require PS3 system software version 3.21 or later
  • Playback of copyright-protected videos that are stored on a media server (when DTCP-IP is enabled under Settings)
  • Use of new features and improvements that are available on PS3 system software 3.21 or later

Are you a PS3 Linux user? What do you think about the removal of this feature?
