FirstPlay Friday – week one

Submitted by on Friday, 9 April 20102 Comments

Well it’s finally here.  We’ve waited, gone through BETA tests and waited some more – now FirstPlay is upon us.

But is it worth your money?

Well that is where PS3 Attitude comes in.  Over the course of the next few weeks we will be doing a weekly rundown of the latest FirstPlay episode – so you can decide if it’s something that takes your fancy.

It will also give you the chance to see how the brand evolves over time as the FirstPlay team hit their stride.

For those who don’t know, FirstPlay is essentially an interactive magazine.  HD video previews and reviews are standard fare, as well as PSN and PlayStation Minis rundowns, lashings of upcoming games screenshots and of course, a downloadable treat or two – with voice over’s done by comedienne Lucy Porter.

You can buy a three month subscription for £8.99, or alternatively you can buy a single episode for 99p.

Each episode is broken down into several segments featuring various games/films – which we will cover here.

Featured Downloads

This week’s downloads are;

Network Highlights

Best of PSN –

  • Burnout Paradise Complete Edition mini review – reminds us just how fantastic the game is.
  • Uncharted: Eye of Indra – an awesome looking digital comic set in the Uncharted universe.  Looking like a must buy.
  • Peggle mini review – we weren’t too keen on this review.  It seemed overly dismissive of an amazing game.
  • FIFA 10 Ultimate Team DLC – looks fantastic and takes us back to the days of trading cards at school.

Minis roundup –

A useful section, as we find it’s difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff when it comes to Minis.

  • Retro Cave Flyer – a Gravity Crash look-a-like.
  • The Terminator – boring looking Robotron clone.
  • Alien Zombie Death – frantic looking 2D shooter.
  • Bowling 3D – does exactly what it says on the tin!
  • Spaceball Revolution – a surprisingly addictive looking puzzle game.

LittleBigPlanet best levels –

A weekly roundup of some of the best community created levels.  We continue to be astounded at the level of quality being displayed.

Video Store round up –

Various clips and a brief rundown of the following;

  • The Hurt Locker
  • Star Trek
  • Jennifer’s Body
  • Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
  • UP

HD Reviews and Previews

  • God of War III review – a humorous, thorough review, although we spotted a couple of minor spoilers from several hours into the game.
  • Just Cause 2 review – a brilliant review with multiple laugh out loud moments.
  • FIFA 10 World Cup preview – a rundown of what to expect later this year.
  • Zombieland Blu-ray review – a fantastic looking film that slipped under our radar, although now it’s in our list of things to buy!

Next Week

Coming next week is the fantastic looking Split/Second: Velocity and new shooter Vanquish.

So that’s that for week one – as you can see there is a large amount of content for what we think is a very reasonable price.

Join us next week as we delve further into the world of FirstPlay.
