“Major” PlayTV update due the end of the year

Submitted by on Wednesday, 14 April 20104 Comments

The end of 2010 may feel like a long way away, but it is good to look to the future.

Sony has now announced that a “major”  update to PlayTV is due at the end of 2010, adding some new features, all but one of which they are keeping tight-lipped about.

All they have spoken about thus far is that it will feature some kind of connectivity to Facebook. We’re guess this will be in the form of updates to your wall to tell your friends what you’re watching.

Sony really are teasing us with this news, but at least we know that there is something to look forward to for owners of the European digital TV receiver, and it may be enough to persuade other PS3 owners to invest in the product now.

It would be great if it had support for HD of course, but sadly it is unlikely that it can be achieved sorely through software updates.
