Transformers: War for Cybertron is the real deal

Submitted by on Thursday, 22 April 20102 Comments

The Transformers concept is one that should be ideal for creating a fantastic video game.  Giant robots smacking seven bells out of each other, whilst morphing into vehicles – how could it possibly go wrong?

Well it has gone wrong in the past, several times in fact – but High Moon Studios upcoming ‘Transformers: War for Cybertron’ looks set to put all the bad stuff behind it.

Let’s roll out!

The game is set on the Transformers home planet – Cybertron – and tells the story of how they all ended up on earth.  It also has no link to any of the recent films.

Anyone familiar with previous Transformers games will be unsurprised to hear that there will be two story lines to play through – the Autobot campaign and the Decepticon campaign.

More excitingly though is the promise of team based online co-op, and multiplayer modes where you can create your own Transformer.  Check out the trailer below;

Xbox World 360 magazine has had some hands on time with the game and seems genuinely impressed.  They had the following to say;

“It looks like a genuinely thrilling blaster and its cast of robots look better here than they ever did on the big screen.

Each Transformer has a brace of special abilities, one a ‘cooldown’ speciality (such as a gun turret that needs to recharge) and one a resource you can call on.

While we’re yet to discover what they are, the demo we played had us using Optimus Prime’s ‘war cry’ ability, which boosted the power of our teammates, medical mech Ratchet and banana-coloured boy-‘bot Bumblebee.

It’s details such as this that point to War for Cybertron being more than just another cash-in.”

If High Moon pulls this off, Transformers: War for Cybertron looks likely to be the sleeper hit of 2010.
