Capcom see massive 73% fall in profits

Submitted by on Saturday, 8 May 20102 Comments

Capcom’s financial results for the year ended 31st March don’t make pleasant reading; the company have reported a 73% fall in profits to £494.4m as annual sales dropped by 27% to 16m.

They blame the “sluggish” sales on the delays for Super Street Fighter IV, Lost Planet 2 and the oversees release of Monster Hunter Tri which all slipped into the next fiscal year.

This meant the company had to rely on some of their new titles which are said to have underperformed; the main culprits were Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles, Dark Void and Bionic Commando.

The previous financial year had been particularly strong for the company with Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV both having strong sales, and these recent results are made to look worse in comparison. The next set of figures should see a strong return for the company with their major titles already proving successful.

The company also said that the arcade sector was a “stagnating market” as profits fell 71%.

Maybe its time for Capcom to get Monster Hunter onto the PS3. It would certainly help them accumulate lots of money.
