Deals of the Week – 21st May 2010

Submitted by on Friday, 21 May 2010No Comment

Here we are again with another fantastic ‘Deals of the Week’ feature by PS3 Attitude.

You’re probably familiar with the process by now but every week we find you four great deals from the web that we think deserve your cash. As usual two of these are from the UK and another two from the USA.

In the usual democratic way the comments are open if you spot any other deals or to discuss the games seen below…

United Kingdom

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion GOTY – £9.98

Our first amazing PS3 deal is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Released in 2007, this game has received critical success across the globe, sporting a Metacritic of 93%.

If you still need to be persuaded why £10 is a great deal for this game, then keep reading.

It is an RPG at heart but also offers a sandbox style of gameplay that allows you the gamer to play a ton of engaging side quests in between playing the fantastic story.

Words cannot describe the scale of this game so we won’t even try, but let’s say that you get so much content that you won’t need to buy anything else for a long time afterwards.

It was one of the first RPGs to release on the PS3 over three years ago, and it still remains one of the best. Final Fantasy may get the crown for the most celebrated role-playing franchise, but this game is one that certainly should not be sniffed at.

If you’re looking for an RPG and you have already bought or are simply not interested in FF XIII or Fallout 3, we have to recommend Oblivion. This Game of the Year edition also comes with Shivering Isles and Knights of The Nine content packs if you ever need to play them.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift – £11.86

Very much not your average arcade racer, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift pits motorbikes and buggies against monster trucks in frantic and often explosive off-road racing through a tropical paradise.

The experience you get is as stupidly fun as it sounds, but don’t be fooled – the game can also be quite challenging at times, meaning we can guarantee you’ll get your money’s worth out of this one. Which to be honest isn’t a massive boast considering how cheap it is!

The low price is in no way a gauge of the quality of the game however. With a strong metacritic score (82) and high production values throughout this is in no way a bargain-bucket title.

The pricing is bizarre though when you consider that Pacific Rift is actually cheaper than the original (which incidentally can be found on Amazon for a very reasonable £15). We say this only because Pacific Rift is such a marked improvement on the original title, with much tighter AI and an even greater variety of tracks and vehicles.

Overall Pacific Rift is a game that should appeal to all, balancing enough pick up and play fun for the average gamer and equally enough challenge for the more experience racing fan.

United States

Super Street Fighter IV – $29.99

Our resident Street Fighter fanatic will be happy to see this one get a mention! If you’re a regular reader of the Deals of the Week feature, you may remember we featured this game in April for the UK, but the game is so good we decided it’s worth mentioning again for the US readers!

Super Street Fighter IV was released last month, and as the name suggests is a tuned up version of the original.

So you’ll be probably asking exactly what is new in this edition. Well it comes with ten new characters, brand new game modes including an improved online offering to complete an already awesome game.

In our review we called it “easily one of the best fighting games you’ll ever play” after “Capcom improved on the original formula in almost every way imaginable”.

The original Street Fighter IV game released back in February 2007 and it was a huge hit with fans of the series, but it also made sure that it appealed to gamers who have never picked up a game from the series before.

So for only $29.99 this amazing game is a great deal for anyone and is the only fighting game you need so don’t hesitate to click the link below! Plus you will get $10 off your next GameStop order!

Red Faction Guerrilla – $19.96

If we’re brutally honest with ourselves, deep down we’re all just big kids who like blowing things ups. Red Faction Guerrilla appeals to this part of us, but it also manages to appeal to the part of us that likes good games which many fail to do.

The game is a third person shooter with some RPG elements set on Mars, and as an open-world sandbox game Red Faction’s biggest strength is that there is plenty to do. The campaign mode is solid and spread out across a pleasingly vast martian environment. The missions are diverse enough and enjoyable enough that you could easily sink a lot of time into this one.

The biggest weakness to this strength would have to be storytelling which, as is often the case, suffers in the open-world setting. In the game you assume the role of an insurgent fighter battling to gain independence from the oppressive ‘Earth Defence Force’. It is hardly Oscar-winning material but the main character is at least likeable, and the plot does enough to carry you through the enjoyable campaign mode.

There is some good multiplayer to be had here, too, but as with all older releases we can’t recommend it on this basis as we can’t guarantee how easy it is to always get a game going.

Another fun little single player title though, and a good addition to anyone’s game library.

You can also save some money too as with the game comes free $5 Amazon MP3 credit which you can use towards buying the game’s soundtrack!
