Deals of the Week – 8th May 2010

Submitted by on Saturday, 8 May 20102 Comments

Welcome to the first PS3 Attitude ‘Deals of the Week’ for May 2010.

In case you don’t know already, every week we show you our favourite online PlayStation 3 game deals for the United Kingdom and United States.

Not only do we tell you about the deals on offer, we at Attitude Towers go out of our way to show why you should invest in them – we know money is tight these days and you don’t want to waste your money on something worthless.

As well as our own deals, if you find better ones or simply have any thoughts on the games listed we want to hear from you in the comments.

United Kingdom

Final Fantasy XIII – £17.98

Yes we know, what a price! But if you actually need to be convinced to purchase this game, then let us tell you why you should stop whatever you’re doing and buy it.

For less than £18 you can buy one of the top games of the moment! Released in March, Final Fantasy XIII is one of the biggest titles of 2010, and has been a long time in the making.

At a Metacritic score of 83%, it can be officially classed as another classic in the world renowned Final Fantasy series.

An RPG at heart, it still appeals to a wide range of gamers, even those that may not play many role-playing games. In our review we said that “Anyone can jump into Final Fantasy XIII and appreciate what it has to offer.”

There is no denying that this is a game that exposes to the masses that Square Enix still have what it takes to develop an exceptional title, and although some fans of the series may question the direction of the game in places, it deserves a spot on almost any gamer’s shelf.

Mirror’s Edge – £6.50

Mirror’s Edge is not a conventional game. Released back in 2008, it received a good reception by critics with an average review score of 79%.

However, it is very much an experience that takes time to take advantage of. It demands off you patience to get the hang of the gameplay and overcome its many obstacles, but once you do, it is very enjoyable.

You play as Faith, whose many skills include free running which sees you jumping across buildings and walking across cables a thousand feet in the air, just to escape from any enemies in the sky and on the ground.

Mirror’s Edge is played in first person so you see everything from Faith’s perspective, which creates a very surreal experience, but it also gives you a sense of freedom and dare we say it peace – you can’t say that about many games of today!

If you’re addicted to shooters, then maybe this is not for you. But if you’re looking for something new and fresh, why not pick it up and see how much you like it. At this price you can’t really go wrong!

United States

Skate 2 – $19.99

After around a decade of the skateboarding genre being dominated by Tony Hawks, the Skate franchise delivers something different that has wowed and converted many gamers.

The first game was a huge success and was what the industry was calling for as it made the genre fun again, and wasn’t just another carbon copy of previous skateboarding games. So EA were under a lot of pressure do maintain the series’ momentum and they achieved this with flying colours.

Skate 2 picks up on what made the first game great and went further to make another exceptional game.

Released over a year ago, it has received critical acclaim with a score of 83&, making it one of the top games of this generation. Perhaps what makes the series so special is that you don’t even need to be a skateboarding fan to enjoy the titles.

So if you’re looking for a fun game that isn’t just another racing title, or shooter, then may we suggest making the effort to pick up this piece of brilliance!

Saints Row 2 – $19.99

Saints Row 2 is another popular title for the PS3. Released back in 2008, like our other games on this list it received great praise by the press with a Metacritic score of 82%.

Published by THQ, this game is a third-person shooter that includes driving elements in an open world universe – sound familiar?

Despite not being one of the highest known titles this generation, it deserves to be under the limelight.

In the game, you play as a character, male or female, who wakes up in a prison ward after an attempted assassination attempt on yourself five years ago as seen in the first game.

The city you play in has close resemblance to Chicago and Detroit, which is a nice change from the usual New York, Los Angeles or Tokyo.

The plot while not the most exciting of all time does throw in some nice surprises, making an all round great title.

For just less than twenty dollars, this game is well worth your money.
