We have often thought that if Sony want people to get really engaged with the Video store for the PlayStation Network, a few exclusives now and again wouldn’t do any harm – After all, Sony own one of the largest movie studios in the world.

Well today it was announced that Heartless, a film by British director Philip Ridley, and featuring one of our favourite British actors Timothy Spall, will be launching simultaneously in cinemas and on the PSN this May the 21st in the UK.

Users will be able to rent an exclusive edition of the movie, or download it to their PSP or PS3 for £5.99.

Sure this is probably the first time you have heard of this movie, but there is no denying that it is a step in the right direction. Sony may be testing the waters and so if there is enough demand for this film we may see bigger ones in the future!
