More MUBI news: the date and price plans

Submitted by on Tuesday, 18 May 20104 Comments

Eurogamer have managed to find out more news from Sony for the MUBI film streaming service which was announced earlier today. Sony representatives revealed to the gaming site – probably while being tortured – that MUBI will be coming in Autumn and that a subscription package will be available to users.

Just like the Video Store, most films will require buying, although Sony have said that some will be free. Whether the free films will be any good is anyone’s guess at this point but we don’t expect the likes of Reservoir Dogs to come for nothing. That’s the way of life, sadly.

With over 300 films expected to be available at launch, with the focus on quality, critically acclaimed films as opposed to overblown Hollywood trash, this could be a service which PS3 owners will want to go back to time and time again. So, it’s good news that Sony will be offering a subscription package, isn’t it?

MUBI will be available to download off the PSN as an app, just like VidZone. Its “exact pricing hasn’t been nailed down,” according to a Sony spokesperson, but if Sony get the pricing just right, this will certainly prove to be an excellent new service for the PS3.
