Sony introduces the PlayStation Protection Plan

Submitted by on Monday, 3 May 20102 Comments

Sony is now offering American PS3 users the chance to purchase an official extended service plan.

Not everyone is happy with the conditions though.

Under the PlayStation Protection Plan, PS3 owners in the United States can purchase an extended service plan of one or two years that begins after the original one-year manufacturer’s limited warranty expires.

The pricing includes all shipping charges and repairs, which are performed by PlayStation-trained service technicians at SCEA-authorized repair facilities.

The PlayStation Protection Plan is available beginning in May 2010.  The pricing is as follows;

  • 1-year extension – $44.99
  • 2-year extension – $59.99

Take note though – the plan can only be purchased if you are still within your original one-year manufacturer’s limited warranty.  If you are interested please click here for contact details.

Of course, not everyone is happy with this.  It is well known that Microsoft extended their manufacturer’s warranty to three years after a massive amount of complaints regarding the Xbox 360.

People are expecting a similar deal from Sony – what are your thoughts?

It would also be nice if Sony gave everyone outside of the U.S the same sort of plan.
