PSN subscription service details coming soon

Submitted by on Wednesday, 26 May 20103 Comments

The rumour of a PSN ‘premium’ service has been doing the rounds for quite some time now.  Sony has now confirmed that indeed one is on the way and details will be announced soon.

Hmm…We wonder when.  Maybe at that little gamer gathering in June?

One of the gripes about Microsoft’s Live service is the way they segregate people who aren’t willing to fork out for a premium ‘Gold’ account.  That’s right – if you have a meagre ‘Silver’ account you can kiss goodbye to 80% of Lives functionality.

This is where we think Sony has the upper hand.  Speaking on the UK PlayStation website, Sony’s European PlayStation boss Andrew House had the following to say;

“I can assure you that the current PSN as you know it will remain a free service. It is something that our competitors don’t offer and something that shows our loyalty to the PlayStation Community. However, Kaz Hirai stated a few months ago that we were looking at a premium service to sit alongside the current free service and that objective has not changed. You’ll learn more about it very soon.”

We are very excited about this and are keen to find out what we will be getting for our money.  Sony needs to price this right though to be seen as good value next to Xbox Live.

So – what would you be willing to pay for a premium PSN?
