3D gaming is here

Submitted by on Thursday, 10 June 20105 Comments

Today marks a monumental moment in the PS3’s life as you can now purchase stereoscopic 3D content from the PlayStation Store.

No new firmware update is required, all you need is to be running v3.30 and have a 3D compatible TV.

Of course the latter requirement will cost you a lot of money if you have yet to make the jump, but Sony hope that the new 3D content will be enough to encourage you to invest in their TVs.

Right now WipEout HD, SuperStardust HD and PAIN are the only games you can buy that support 3D, with a demo of Motorstorm: Pacific Rift thrown in.

If you already own these titles then a free patch will be available to you. But SCEE are offering a special starter pack with all the above contents for €29.99/£23.99.

All of Sony’s 3D capable BRAVIA HDTVs will also come with a voucher to download those games for free, which is a nice incentive for new owners to buy a PS3!

Sadly if you actually want to watch 3D movies on your new expensive TV, you will have to wait for a firmware update sometime before the year ends!

Finally Sony has announced that PlayStation Move title The Fight: Lights Out will also support 3D. But does 3D actually interest you at all? Please share all of your thoughts in the comments.
