PlayStation Plus plans outlined
Following the announcement of PlayStation Plus there were still many questions that needed answering. The guys at Sony knew this, so they posted all the necessary details for PlayStation Plus over at the EU PlayStation Blog.
They have also stated what the benefits will be for PlayStaiton Plus members in the initial months; there’s plenty to get excited about. The most exciting announcement – and probably most surprising – was that a full digital copy of LittleBigPlanet will be offered to those who sign up before August 9. Could that be the thing that sells PlayStation Plus to you?
The service will be launching on June 29, and Sony has reassured fans that the service will be an extension to the PlayStation’s online experience. They say that they are “very committed to PSN as a free gaming service.”
Those who sign up to PlayStation Plus will be able to look forward to the following benefits:
- Exclusive items on PlayStation Store
- Full Game Trial
- Automatic Downloads
(More info on these below)
Members can expect four free games a month, one PSN title, two Minis and one PSOne classic. They will be available to download within the month until they are replaced. They will be yours to keep as long as you are a member. Should you leave, they will no longer be active, but you will be able to retrieve the games you had downloaded if you re-subscribe.
Two dynamic themes and two premium avatars will be downloadable each month. As will premium game elements (such as DLC). Sony say that many of these will be exclusive to members only. They are yours to keep forever once you’ve downloaded them.
Discounts will be available on selected content, these will vary between 20% – 50%.
Members will get special treatment when it comes to some demos and beta trials. If you want to be that guy who is always in the know about the next best thing then you better be a member.
James Thorpe over at the PlayStation Blog is very confident that PlayStation Plus will be of great value to PS3 owners :
“As I mentioned, just the games themes and avatars are worth over £200* a year and with unrestricted access to 48+ games each year and all the other features, we think this service is great value for money”
We find it hard to disagree.
One very useful benefit for users will be the availability of free game trials for two full games. The trial period is expected to last about an hour; any trophies and progress you make will be saved and ready for when you buy the game. This £3.33 per month subscription could save you from wasting your money on bad games.
Automatic downloads is a feature that allows users to set their PS3s to start up from stand by to download and install updates before going back to sleep. Hopefully this feature will mean that you won’t have to wait for downloads and installs when you do try to play your games.
