Disc free Netflix coming to the PS3 by October
With Netflix launching last year for the PlayStation 3 via a disc solution, and Hulu Plus releasing soon with a simple software download, US PS3 owners have a couple of good solutions to watching movies and TV shows.
But Netflix has announced that by October, there will finally be a disc free option to streaming content.
CEO Reed Hastings had this to say at the company’s Q2 commentary:
Before our next call in October, we expect to be launching a major new version of our Sony PS3 user interface which doesn’t require a disc and is dynamically updated continuously with the latest Netflix UI improvements.
Users of the service should be delighted that they will no longer have to remove their favourite title from the disc drive to stream a movie or TV show.
And speaking of TV shows, Netflix hope to offer more in the future:
In terms of streaming content, we are rapidly expanding our TV shows available for streaming and since our last call we have added thousands of TV episodes. We see TV shows as equally important to our franchise as movies.
With all seasons of Hulu favourite Family Guy coming to the service in a few weeks, Netflix is looking like an even better deal for consumers.
