EA SPORTS become Official Sports Technology Partner of the Premier League
EA SPORTS were today named as the Official Sports Technology Partner of the Premier League. It’s a move that will give the company direct access to Premier League statistics. A resource that will prove invaluable for the development of EA SPORTS’ genre-defining football sim, FIFA.
The deal will see EA SPORTS branding appear on all live on-screen broadcasts of Barclays Premier League games. The company will also work alongside broadcasters to develop enhancements for match day broadcast analysis and to increase fan interaction. The Player Performance Index will also be sponsored by EA SPORTS.
“That’s all very well”, I hear you say, “what’s this got to do with games?” Here’s the cool part: by having direct access to the Player Performance Index, EA SPORTS will learn some incredible facts about individual players. Time and distance measurements; how hard a shot was hit; the force of a ball when a keeper made a save; how high a player jumped – this is just scratching the surface. EA SPORTS will use this data to improve the accuracy of player statistics in FIFA to make it a more authentic game.
“As the most watched domestic football competition in the world, the Barclays Premier League delivers tremendous global exposure and direct access to one of the most passionate football audiences in the world. Partnering with the Premier League further establishes EA SPORTS and its FIFA franchise as the ultimate, authentic football gaming experience. We look forward to adding further in-game authenticity with the direct access to the Player Performance Index as well as releasing new ways to leverage our technology to enhance the fans enjoyment of Barclays Premier League football on and beyond match day each week.” – said Matt Bilbey, Vice President of Football, EA SPORTS.
This partnership will benefit both parties. “Graphics, animations and interactive technology combined with real-time, real world data feeds” will be used during match day broadcasts.
“We are extremely pleased that EA SPORTS has had the foresight to enter into this exciting new partnership that will connect with Barclays Premier League fans in new and inventive ways. Fans have a thirst for statistics and information and that is something that the Premier League, working with EA SPORTS, will provide to a level not seen before in professional football.” said Premier League Director of Sales & Marketing, Richard Masters
FIFA is already the leading football sim and with this deal it’s hard to see this changing in the near future. The guys at Konami have a lot of work to do…
