FirstPlay Thursday – Week 14

Submitted by on Thursday, 8 July 2010One Comment

FirstPlay has been with us for a few months now and it’s really starting to get into its stride, with great content appearing every week. But what can you find in this week’s episode?

Overall, it’s a pretty good episode this week. The highlights are reviews of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 and Green Day: Rock Band, and a preview of Ninja Theory’s fantastic-looking second PS3 title, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.

There are also screenshot galleries for the likes of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Pro Evolution Soccer 11. Could it be fourth time lucky on PS3 for Konami’s struggling football series? According to FirstPlay, it’s looking promising.

As always, this episode can be purchased for 99p, or you can save some money by taking out a 90-day subscription for £8.99.

Download size of Episode 14 = 1225MB

The complete contents of this week’s episode are as follows:

HD Reviews and Previews

Green Day: Rock Band review – adds nothing new to the RB formula, but, with 47 songs, it’s essential for Green Day fans – 8/10

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 review – decent, but there’s not much to get excited about, unless you can wait for PS Move functionality when it launches in September – 7/10

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West preview – looking incredible, despite blatantly plagiarising certain elements of other games (namely Prince of Persia and Uncharted)

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief Blu-Ray review – only okay, but seeing Steve Coogan as Hades is a definite highlight – 6/10

Network Highlights

The Pick of PSP – the latest and greatest games on Sony’s handheld

  • Ace Combat: Joint Assault – multiplayer comes to Namco’s classic flight combat series
  • ModNation Racers – impressive, but more awkward conversion of the PS3 game
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands – The Prince returns to his roots in this fun 2.5D platformer

Top Ten FIFA Goals – if the actual England team were as good as these gamers then they might have saved the whole country some embarrassment

ModNation Racers Top Tracks – the best user-generated tracks, including one by OPM’s Ben Wilson that looks so difficult it’s like the kart racing equivalent of Demon’s Souls – check out the PS3 Attitude review here

Skate Tricks & Bails – FirstPlay viewers skate to victory (or, more likely, pain) – check out the PS3 Attitude review here

Screenshot Galleries

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood – Assassin’s Creed 2.5 is looking strong

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 – we hope you’re not allergic to Lionel Messi, because if you are then this gallery could kill you

Tom Clancy’s HAWX 2 – the first game was pretty average, but sold well… let’s make a sequel!

Warriors: Legends of Troy – Dynasty Warriors meets Homer’s Iliad in Koei’s latest

We should point out here that over on the EU blog, Associate Editor of FirstPlay, Nathan Ditum, admitted that the Featured Downloads section has been pretty empty for a few weeks, and revealed that FirstPlay is currently ‘in talks with a few different publishers about upcoming content’ and he ‘should be able to bring you some news soon’.

FirstPlay Joe Danger Theme – unlike some previous FirstPlay themes, this one looks like it was made specifically for the XMB – finally!
