FIFA 11 – Be a Goalkeeper tutorial video released

Submitted by on Wednesday, 25 August 2010One Comment

During Gamescom last week, we reported on the newly announced features coming in FIFA 11. One of these was the ability to play as a goalkeeper, and the subsequent new Be a Goalkeeper mode. EA have just released the tutorial video for this mode, which gives an idea of what’s involved – it looks quite challenging to say the least.

You use the left stick to move the goalkeeper, and push the right stick in the direction you want to dive whenever a shot is taken. Timing is clearly key, as diving too early or too late could mean conceding a goal. You can also attempt more complicated moves, such as rushing out to defend against a single striker, or punching the ball away to get rid of the danger.

Like Be a Pro mode from previous FIFA games, in Be a Goalkeeper there is an icon on the ground that shows you the best place to cover the goal for the current situation. There are also various other indicators to help determine where each shot is likely to go. Of course, if you’re confident about your goalkeeping skills, all of these displays can be toggled on or off at any time.

Be a Goalkeeper looks to be one of the more interesting additions to FIFA this year, and we can’t wait to try it out when the game is released on September 28th in North America and October 1st in Europe.
