GC10; Gran Turismo 5 to include Course Maker and Kart Racing
Gamescom has been a volcano of news and announcements this week and the eruption doesn’t appear to be over yet. We’ve got new information on a very cool feature to be included in Gran Turismo 5, as well as an unlikely new vehicle class.
Starting from the top, Gran Turismo 5 is going to feature a course creator for racers to utilize. This is not to be confused with a full-fledged track creator, as this will only allow you to edit track themes that are already in the game.
You’ll start by choosing a course type (point to point or circuit) followed by a track theme and the number of sections you wish to include. From there, you edit each section by the severity and frequency of corners, the total width of the track and even the banking of the course.
When talk of a larger creation tool that would allow gamers to build tracks from scratch came up, Series creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, stated that the kind of technology needed to create that kind of feature “really requires a complete CG tool, which would limit the number of users who could use it.”
Also announced was the surprising addition of racing go-karts to the game. According to Yamauchi, the karts were going to be saved for a later Gran Turismo title before some kind of leak forced their hand in implementing them in to Gran Turismo 5.
There’s sure to be more news just on the horizon from both the Gran Turismo camp and Gamescom, so stay tuned for all the latest and greatest.
