Gran Turismo 5 has massive ‘optional’ hard drive install
We promised to keep you up to date on all the latest Gran Turismo 5 news, didn’t we? Well this is us holding up our end of the bargain. To maintain your end, all you have to do is read about it. Today we bring information regarding Gran Turismo 5’s hard drive install.
Hard drive installs are a bit of a touchy subject these days. You’ve got those gamers that have newer PS3’s or have a ton of free space that would prefer the installs over longer load times. Then there’s those who are still stuck with launch PS3’s or are strapped for hard drive space, that don’t want to have to dig through their memory to try and find space when they get new games.
It seems Polyphony and Gran Turismo 5 are putting their best foot forward and giving gamers an option. On his official Twitter feed, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi stated that only 256MB’s are required for the install, but he also recommended a full 10GB’s for a smooth play experience.
256MB’s is a very small price to pay for such a huge game and it’s doubtful you’ll even notice the game installing with that kind of memory requirement. Our main question is how big the difference is between the mandatory and optional installs. If it’s strictly loading times then our concerns will be eased a little, but if the game doesn’t run as well without the mandatory install then we can’t help but wonder if there was a better way they could’ve handled it.
So with all that being said, we’ll ask your opinion. How much space do you have on your hard drive right now? If it’s less than 10 gigs, will you be willing to free up the space to get the optimal Gran Turismo experience?
