Insomniac to announce a new game soon
Insomniac Games are planning to reveal a new title “sometime between now and the Penny-Arcade Expo over Labor Day weekend”, prompting speculation that they are about to announce Resistance 3 or a new Ratchet & Clank.
Insomniac have booked a slot at PAX 2010 for September 4, where key developers will be discussing and even playing the mystery new game.
“We’re bringing our new game to a very special Penny-Arcade Expo panel on Saturday evening (September 4th), at 6:30pm in the Serpent Theatre,” the developer writes. “G4TV’s Adam Sessler will moderate a panel with key creative talent from Insomniac Games as we discuss (and demo!) our upcoming PlayStation 3 project.”
That a demo is to be shown at PAX 2010 suggests that the development must be at an advanced stage. It would fit nicely into the Resistance timeline if was to be released late this year because the first Resistance game came out in late 2006 and its sequel arrive late 2008. A late 2010 release for Resistance 3 would make sense.
We also know that it is a “PlayStation Project”. This rules out the unannounced new multi-platform franchise that they are working on as partners with EA. When Insomniac teamed up with EA they reassured fans that they were still committed to their PlayStation franchises, so we’re taken back again to Resistance 3 or Ratchet & Clank.
We’re most likely to hear about the former: back in March, Sony sent out a survey asking gamers if they thought a new Resistance game was in development and if it was was would they buy the game upon its release. It struck us as a not too subtle way of gauging the public’s excitement for Resistance 3 prior to it being officially announced.
What do you think Insomniac have up their sleeves? A new Resistance or Ratchet & Clank game? Or maybe even something completely different? Let us know in the usual place below…
