Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World – The PS3 Attitude Preview

Submitted by on Tuesday, 10 August 20104 Comments

Fans of the Scott Pilgrim Comics are no doubt excited about the upcoming film. And like most major films these days, its getting a video-game.

However, with so many movie tie-in games being sub-par, you’d be forgiven for being less then excited about it. Well think again.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World sees you playing as… well, Scott Pilgrim. He’s fighting for the right to date Ramona by going up against and defeating all 7 of Ramona’s Ex’s.

Based off the comics and movie, the game retains the humour and visual style of the comics, while feeling fresh and nostalgic at the same time.

The art style, brought by Paul Robertson, evokes memories of games from the past, and it looks fantastic. Highly detailed backgrounds and characters models resembling those from the comics bring a colourful and vibrant feel to the whole game.

I sense an epic battle coming up...

The animations are just as good. Smooth movements and actions make this game seem highly polished, and not just another flat movie tie-in.

It should be said, that this is primarily a fighting game. You collect coins from fallen enemies and in bizarre, slightly 4th wall-breaking, yet fitting subspace sections, as well as hearts to keep you alive and extra lives. This is old-school indeed.

Fighting is also fun and simple. Its so easy to pick up, you’ll be having fun in no time at all.

How long is his arm? I think I just wet myself...

The music also adds to the retro feel to the game. Anamanaguchi supply the soundtrack with hacked Nintendo consoles, which brings a really rich, fun sound to the game.

Everything about this game is spot on. Every aspect of the game adds up to an awesome package, and great fun to play.

Look out for it later today in the US, and later this month in the UK.
