Now this is a surprise. Gearbox Software, at PAX 2010, showed off some screenshots for their illusive shooter, Aliens Colonial Marines. A game we’ve not heard about in… well it’s been that long we can’t remember.

Aliens Colonial Marines is a squad-based first person shooter based on the classic film franchise, although it will have its own (un)original story – the United States Colonial Marine squad are preparing to face an alien assault of biblical proportions. The game will retain the atmospheric look and feel of the original films.

One of the most exciting things about Aliens Colonial Marines is that it will have four-player co-op. So much for, “in space no one can hear you scream.” Yes, no one but your three closest buddies will hear you turn into an emotional wreck.

Aliens Colonial Marines is being developed by Gearbox Software, who are also working on Duke Nukem Forever. It’s another game that’s taking an eternity to get finished. At least we know they’re still in production. Click on the screenshots below to enlarge them.
