Dead Space 2 multi-player trailer – ‘The terror has returned’

Submitted by on Monday, 13 September 20106 Comments

“The terror has returned, but this time you are not alone.” Those haunting words, situated at the beginning of the new Dead Space 2 trailer, confirms that EA are no longer content with giving solo frights; they now want to group a bunch of gamers together to scare the living daylights out of the lot of them, together.

Dead Space 2’s multi-player had been shrouded in secrecy up to now, but EA have finally lifted the lid. The trailer, exclusive to GamesTrailers, shows a four vs. four team deathmatch, humans vs. creatures.

As one human desperately blasts away an alien (that’s clinging to the face of his partner), the caption reads “work together.” It’s already clear the different dynamics at play: humans are slow but they’re equipped with super-powered weaponry. The beasts on the other hand are extremely fast and agile; you see one creature leaping across the room from a higher platform to rip up a human’s head. Humans must group together or else they’ll “die together.”

The chilling trailer shows so much promise. Dead Space 2 has already re-imagined the sci-fi horror genre, now it looks as though it could do the same with the multi-player genre. It’s likely to have more tension and suspense than any other multi-player out there, and different pacing as well.

One word of caution: it’s very difficult to get a good balance when you’re creating a multi-player like this. it’s easy to make one class much stronger than the other, thus ruining the competitive edge. Rebellion tried and came up short with Aliens vs. Predator. EA also need to nail the controls for the creatures. Failure to do so, would really spoil the experience. Otherwise, we can’t wait to hear more.
