Demon’s Souls joins the PS3 Greatest Hits
Demon’s Souls, the highly regarded and notoriously difficult RPG from Atlus has been added to Sony’s PlayStation 3 Greatest Hits range. What does this mean? Well, the game will now sit in stores boasting new distinguished packaging and an eye catching price tag of $29.99.
Developed by From Software, Demon’s Souls was originally rejected by Sony for being too niche, a move they later regretted. Atlus didn’t make the same mistake, they jumped at the chance to publish the game and they have been well rewarded for doing so.
Tim Pivnicny, Altus’ Vice President of Sales and Marketing, was on hand to celebrate the game becoming part of the Greatest Hits range:
“Very few games reach the esteemed PlayStation 3 system Greatest Hits status. Those that do are among the very finest the platform has to offer, combining critical success, tremendous popularity, and exceptional quality. Demon’s Souls represents some of the biggest risks, loftiest goals, and most daring innovations ever embarked upon by a developer. Its arrival into the exclusive ranks of PlayStation 3 Greatest Hits validates its designers’ achievements and helps bring their unique vision to a larger audience. Priced to own at only $29.99, there has never been a better time to find out what everyone’s been talking about.”
In July, Atlus made a big deal about Demon’s Souls severs being kept alive until at least March 2011. It was news that worried us because we never thought the game was ever in any danger of losing server support. With a new influx of gamers about to buy the game now its part of the presitgious Greatest Hits, we suspect the servers will stay live for a long time yet.
If you don’t own Demon’s Souls already, and not quite sure if it’s your thing, we suggest you look back at the review we wrote last year. We suggest you snap the game up quickly if you want it to come in its original packaging, as the shops won’t bring in the Greatest Hits boxes until the old stock is gone.
