El Shaddai: Ignition proud to leave TGS with future game award
Ignition Entertainment were proud to walk away from the Tokyo Game Show with the approval of the masses. The 200,000 attendees voted Ignition’s El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron as their ‘Future Game of the Show 2010.’ You can’t fail to be impressed by a game that not only has a distinctive visual style, but one that also finds its inspiration in old religious texts to boot.
El Shaddai is a 3rd person fantasy action title inspired by the events in the Book of Enoch. Enoch, “a brave and just human”, is caught up in an almighty battle between Heaven and the Fallen Angels. Enoch must overcome the Fallen Angels if he is to survive the great flood, ordered by Heaven to cleanse the Earth. Naturally this will require a lot of platforming action.
View the trailer (above) or the extensive gallery (below) and you’ll see for yourself why this game managed to win over the crowd. It looks simply stunning. The Tokyo-based team has developers who have worked on titles such as Viewtiful Joe, Devil May Cry and the wonderful Okami – they are games with distinctive visual styles, and El Shaddai is no less striking.
Sawaki Takeyasu, director of UTVIgnition Japan Studio, was over the moon to accept the award, he had this to say:
“This was very unexpected, but it is a great honour and I am delighted to accept such an award. We started this project 4 years ago with a strong will, in hopes to create a flagship title for all the gamers in the world. I was extremely fortunate to have such a great team to work with.”
El Shaddai will be arriving on PlayStation 3 and it will be distributed across all territories.
