Enslaved movie rejected by Hollywood
We here at the Attitude Towers are becoming quite excited about Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. It’s Ninja Theory’s latest title and it looks to be shaping up quite nicely. Not long ago, we were talking about how intriguing the story line was and wondered if we’ve ever see a movie adaptation. Now, we have our answer.
Apparently, right around the time Enslaved development really started to take off, the team took the idea to Hollywood to try and sell them on the thought of a movie. Speaking to Destructoid, Ninja Theory’s Tameem Antoniades had this to say about the idea:
“We actually really went for that. We were serious about it. We went to all the big studios in Hollywood and pitched the idea.”
Tameem went on to say that they could not garner any serious interest for the movie, partly due to the lack of understanding from the Hollywood big-wigs.
“They have no idea of what real time means, they just care about how good it looks. Then, the fact that you say you can do this for cheap has no interest to studios whatsoever, because they don’t want to do it for cheap. They want Pixar and the other higher end [studios] to do it for 100 million dollars or 60 million dollars. To do it any other way is considered a huge risk, so it just didn’t wash. It just didn’t go with the model that’s established in movies. “
It sounds like Ninja Theory wanted to create the Enslaved movie using the Unreal 3 Engine, which is the same engine used to power the game. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like we’re going to see this idea come to fruition any time soon but we can always hope, right?
How about you guys and gals? Based on what you’ve seen from the game, would you like to see an Enslaved movie made in the manner listed above?
