TGS10; Mikami and Suda51 unveil Shadows of the Damned

Submitted by on Wednesday, 15 September 2010No Comment

EA have announced Shadows of the Damned, a collaboration between Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil, Vanquish) and Suda51 (No More Heroes). Shadows of the Damned is a heavily stylised psychological action thriller due for release in 2011 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The story follows a demon hunter, Garcia Hotspur, on his journey into a “hyper-twisted re-imagining of hell where he must rescue the love of his life by defeating the armies of darkness with the power of light.” The announcement was made at the Tokyo Game Show, where a trailer was also on show. It shows our hero Garcia Hotspur ride into hell on a motorbike to slaughter tons of demons with a whole variety of bizarre weapons.

Showing his quirky side, Suda has requested that the game gets called Damned or DMD, he doesn’t want it abbreviated to SotD. He describes the game as one of the best that he’s worked on in his lifetime.

Taking Suda’s punk-rock influences and blending them with Mikami’s legendary design looks to be a winning combo. EA will be hoping that DMD will have the same influence on the PlayStation 3 as Resident Evil 4 had on the PlayStation 2.
