PlayStation Move – What’s been patched?

Submitted by on Friday, 17 September 201022 Comments

Do you plan on getting Move, but don’t want to also fork out on a bunch of new games? Then don’t worry because Sony’s got you covered.

As Move launches today in North America and the UK, we thought we’d compile a list of the games that have already been patched with Move functionality. We’ve also included information about where you can get the patch from, and other useful details.

Please note that the ‘patch availability’ sections in this article are probably most applicable to users in Europe and the rest of the PAL territory.

Patch availability: Download now for free from the PlayStation Store

Details: The size of this download (a whopping 2GB) should be a clue as to just how much it adds to the game. Whilst a lot remains the same, the new features allow the player to use the Move controller as many different items such as a shower, hairdryer, or bubble machine to amuse your EyePet.

Heavy Rain

Patch availability: Download upon start-up from 22nd September

Details: The Move can be used to play the entire game, and the critical response has been very positive. The sense of immersion in Heavy Rain was already fantastic, but the Move goes just that little bit deeper and, once you’ve got used to it, feels much more natural.

Say hello to my little friend... the PlayStation Move!

High Velocity Bowling

Patch availability: Download now for free from the PlayStation Store

Details: Out of all of the games on this list, High Velocity Bowling is the title that has been changed the least by Move, as it already used the SIXASIS motion control relatively successfully. That said, the new controller works well; just be sure to strap the Move controller to your wrist!

Hustle Kings

Patch availability: Download now upon start-up

Details: Unfortunately, Hustle Kings is probably the least successful of all the patched games, because it’s so obvious that the game wasn’t designed with Move in mind, and consequentially feels a little awkward. No doubt there’s fun to be had here, but be prepared for a steep learning curve.

Planet Minigolf

Patch availability: Download now upon start-up

Details: One of the newer titles on the PlayStation Store, Planet Minigolf seems like a perfect fit for the Move. With 144 levels, the game was already addictive, and the new controller only adds to the fun, and now even your grandparents can have a go!

Okay, to be fair the PlayStation Move might have a bit of trouble taking THAT on

Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition

Patch availability: Download now upon start-up

Details: The whole game is playable with the Move, as well as all the DLC (which is already included on the disc). It’s disappointing that the standard version of Resident Evil 5 isn’t getting patched, but the Gold Edition can actually be purchased pretty cheaply now.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11

Patch availability: Download now upon start-up

Details: Tiger Woods was patched for Move nearly two months ago, and since then the Move safety warning has been taunting gamers every time they load up the game. Now that Move has launched, you can finally see how the game plays with the new controller, and the result is a qualified success.

But what if you don’t have any of the above games, you say?

The chances are you’ll have at least one or two of the listed games, but never fear if you don’t, as there are a number of other titles getting Move support in the weeks to come, including PSN classics such as Flower and Pain, as well as full retail games like MAG and Toy Story 3.

The diversity of the games we’ve cited shows just how versatile the PlayStation Move really is. With the huge number of patched games, and some decent launch titles, there’s no doubt that the controller is off to a good start, and it’s only going to get better from here.
