FIFA 11 Ultimate Team free for everyone; coming November
EA have announced that FIFA’s popular annual Ultimate Team DLC will be free to all FIFA 11 players. Not only that, but it’s also coming in November, giving gamers three whole months longer to play it than normal.
This is certainly a bold move, but when you publish the fastest-selling sports game of all time (2.6 million copies by 2nd October), you can afford to give something back.
In fact, in the UK, Ultimate Team was £7.99 for FIFA 09, and £3.99 for FIFA 10, so in some respects it’s not a surprise that EA have decided to give FIFA 11’s version of the DLC away for free.
That way, a lot more people can try it out, and there’s a good chance that many of them will become addicted and spend a ridiculous amount of money on card packs, thereby probably making the DLC even more profitable than it already was.
Amongst the new features in this latest iteration of Ultimate Team are fan-requested Play A Friend online matches, and an enhanced web app that allows players to auction and trade cards even when away from their consoles.
We know it’s coming in November, but EA are yet to announce a specific release date so we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear anything more.
