FirstPlay Thusday – Week 28
On the frontline of this week’s episode (do you see what we did there?) is a review of the modern reboot of the classic Medal of Honor series. Other reviews include the muddy racer WRC: FIA World Rally Championship and the cute PSN title Swords and Soldiers (along with a European-exclusive demo and early access to the full game).
Elsewhere there are previews of the imaginatively titled EA Sports MMA, and the awesome-looking multiplayer of Call of Duty: Black Ops. You’ll also find a cool video of Skate 3, and screenshot galleries including Batman: Arkham City and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One.
As always, this episode can be purchased for 99p, or you can save some money by taking out a 90-day subscription for £8.99.

HD Reviews and Previews
Medal of Honor review – a very decent reboot of a struggling series, yet it copies Modern Warfare more than it improves upon it – 8/10
WRC: FIA World Rally Championship review – this official WRC tie-in is solid but unfortunately doesn’t do enough to elevate itself above other similar racers – 7/10
Reviews Round-up – too many games!!!
- John Daly’s ProStroke Golf – feels more like a golfing tutorial than a game – 6/10
- Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions – simply nowhere near as good as Batman: Arkham Asylum – 5/10
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 – the series is back on track but still isn’t as slick as FIFA – 8/10
EA Sports MMA preview – looking good but can it beat UFC: Undisputed?
Network Highlights
Swords & Soldiers review – a charming, cartoonish and frantic RTS – 8/10
Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer preview – looks a lot more balanced than the multiplayer in Infinity Ward’s game, for one thing the nuke has gone – YES!!
Top Ten Dead Rising 2 weapons – a countdown of the most inventive weapons ever seen in a videogame
Skate Parkour Special – unbelievably, this guy has made the running bits on Skate 3 actually look pretty cool
Screenshot Galleries
Batman: Arkham City – it’s a shame that the Joker won’t be in Arkham City much, but this is still looking excellent
F.3.A.R. – looking pretty much as gruesome as ever (we’re not sure if that’s a good or bad thing)
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One – it turns out co-op gameplay and R&C go together very well
Yakuza 4 – the graphical step-up from Yakuza 3 is actually quite strong
