Motion control to take PDC darts to next level

Submitted by on Thursday, 18 November 20106 Comments

On 26 November, PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour will be released on PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360, and Eric Miller, Associate Producer from the game’s developer Redoubt, has been explaining why advancements in motion control has made this the best PDC yet.

Miller says that PlayStation Move and Wii MotionPlus has allowed Redoubt to accurately map a player’s hand and arm position, creating “much more of a connection between what the player is physically doing, and what is represented on screen allowing you to ‘feel’ the game by both ‘doing’ and ‘seeing’.”

Like a true pro, players will be able to affect the spin and land angle of the dart through their throwing gestures.

“Professional darts players have a preferred land angle to their dart, which allows them to plan their shots to the board to allow the maximum possible room on the board for that third dart into the Treble Twenty. As there is not much room, and darts can collide with and bounce off of other darts: this is incredibly important to them. In PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour the angle of your Wii MotionPlus [and your Move] controller at the moment of release when you throw your dart, can influence the ‘land angle’ of your dart to the board and therefore the amount of room you have left for subsequent shots. This adds a whole level of realism to the game that has never been present before, and greatly adds to the experience and simulation.”

So, are you convinced? Or is darts a sport best left at the pub? Don’t just take Miller’s view on things, PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour is also endorsed by Phil “The power” Taylor. Either that or someone swapped his darts for a Move.

"Right lads, what have you done with my darts?"
