192.168.11.4 image22 e1294449819809 Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 release date and price confirmedCapcom has announced the European release date and price for Bionic Commando Rearmed 2. Nathan Spencer and his mechanical arm will be grappling his way onto the European PlayStation Store from 2 February. The game will be available for €14.99.

Just to clarify, this is the sequel to Bionic Commando Rearmed – the side-scrolling platformer, released in 2008 on the PSN – and not the 3D offering, simply titled Bionic Commando. The former received a fair amount of praise for its cool retro style and for recapturing the magic of the original arcade game. Sadly, the other Bionic Commando didn’t fare so well; Grin failed to recoup the significant development costs and its failure is often cited as a key factor behind the studio going under.

In truth, it was a very sluggish game, and it somehow managed to make a bionic arm (featuring a grappling hook) not very fun to use. Making the leap from 2D to 3D can hazardous, just ask Sonic, and a return to the Rearmed style should hopefully get the series back on track.

Rearmed 2 is developed by Fat Shark, the studio behind the team-based third-person shooter Lead & Gold. They have added new weapons, attacks and enhancements for Spencer’s arm, and the platforming mechanics have been tweaked, making sure the impossible is “within your leap!”. Two player co-op is back, and Capcom are also claiming improved graphics and art design.

We have no information on how much this will cost UK users, but we’ll get in touch with Capcom, and hopefully we’ll be able to update this article with those details soon. In the meantime, check out some gameplay footage at the top of the page.
