Gameloft to release Modern Combat: Domination
Addias. Nikre. Boreos. Knock-offs are a part of consumer based society. Company A creates a wonderfully successful product. Then another company, let’s just call them Company B (bet you didn’t see that coming) mimics said product virtually eliminating a large chunk of their development costs.
Of course this trend does not limit itself to expensive shoes and chocolate cookies. With the video games industry more viable than ever it is no surprise that more and more companies are throwing their hats into the ring to try to get a piece of the pie.
Double metaphors aside, it is not surprising to see something like a Call To Duty or Need To Speed on store shelves. However, is it possible for a company to make a product that is too similar to its competitor’s?
The existence of profits dictates the existence of copycats. Under the constructs of business these companies often aren’t exactly doing anything wrong. As long as certain intellectual properties are maintained it’s simply open market competition. One could chalk this up as an inherent cost of capitalism.
Gameloft has announced Modern Combat: Domination, a PSN title set for a January19th release. As you can see from the video above Gameloft’s title strikes quite a resemblance to a certain billion dollar franchise. My mom/teachers/TV always told me that ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.’
What say you gamer: fair or foul?
