Capcom confirms Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Submitted by on Monday, 28 March 20112 Comments

Believe it or not it has been 15 years since we first caught glimpse of the now epic Resident Evil franchise. In a nod to their past success Capcom, this month, announced the future availability of both Resident Evil 4 and Code: Veronica X via download.

Not to be outdone, official news has surfaced concerning the latest addition to the franchise: Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.

Following the more action oriented Resident Evil 5, Capcom is set to do a proper about face with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Fans will again revisit the T-virus outbreak of  Resident Evil 2 & 3.

This time around though players will find themselves cutting through zombies as an Umbrella Security Services Soldier (U.S.S.). As a member of the U.S.S. you and your team will be tasked with covering up any and all evidence linking Umbrella with the outbreak, be it documents or survivors.

Upon getting wind of such a cover up effort the US Government has dispatched its very own special force to uncover the truth. Along the way gamers can expect to run into a few old faces.

Expect the return of original Resident Evil enemies, iconic landmarks such as the Raccoon City Police Department and fan favourite characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, who as a rookie police officer in Raccoon City is on your hit list to eliminate. Players will experience a retelling of classic moments from past titles Resident Evil™ 2 and Resident Evil™ 3 and watch the events unfolding from the menacing perspective of the Umbrella Security Service, giving fans the chance to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak.

Developed in conjunction with Slant 6 Games, of SOCOM fame, Operation Raccoon City will afford gamers with a gameplay style new to the series: squad-based combat. In addition to a solo campaign, gamers will have the option to assemble a team of players to fight cooperatively.

In what will surely prove to be a polarizing decision a major focal point of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City appears to be increased multiplayer functionality.

Resident Evil™: Operation Raccoon City will deliver a number of competitive online multiplayer modes. Each one of these will provide a unique gaming experience thanks to the three way combat between the Umbrella Security Service, US Special Ops and threat of zombies and B.O.W’s that could only exist in the deadly and twisted Resident Evil Universe.

No news of a release date was offered as of yet. Stay tuned for more coverage.
