Jefferson Airplane invade Homefront’s launch trailer
Kaos Studios’ Homefront – this year’s ultimate what-if game – is out this week, and to whet everyone’s appetite for its release, THQ has uploaded an action-filled launch trailer. When the fightback begins, the swaggering riffs of Jefferson Airplane will be playing.
The events take place in the year 2027, when a united Korea has invaded America, turning the Land of the Free into a battleground. You play as a member of the resistance, desperately trying to fight back against the Korean army, which both has you outnumbered and out-gunned.
If Homefront sounds similar to the 1984 film Red Dawn, that’s because John Milius, Homefront’s writer, is the person behind the screenplay for that film. He’s also behind the script for Apocalypse Now, one of the most revered films of all time. We can appreciate why THQ is keen to stress Milius’ past work in the trailer.
The singleplayer campaign has no doubt been the studios’ focus, but that doesn’t mean that they’ve neglected the multiplayer. Homefront’s multiplayer mixes Battlefield’s large scale vehicular warfare with Call of Duty’s loadouts. It’s an interesting combination, which happens to be a whole lotta fun. We suspect people will be coming back to the multiplayer long after they complete the main campaign.
We’ll be bringing you more Homefront coverage later in the week. Keep your eyes peeled.
