New Batman: Arkham City details revealed; release date announced

First, we’ll get to the details fans have by dying to know; Batman: Arkham City will be released on October 18th in North America and three days later on October 21st in Europe. We’ll give you a moment to go ahead and get your pre-orders in. Good?

James Gallagher of the EU PlayStation.Blog had the opportunity to see an early mission from Arkham City and kindly shares with some things we can expect in the follow up to the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers.

White Knight Chronicles II was released in Japan last July and since then, fans have been wondering when an international release date would be set. This week the cupboards are rather bare. No new games to speak of aside from the trial and unlock for Back to the Future: The Game.

If you’ve noticed that you and your current avatar have grown apart over time and the mere sight of Crash Bandicoot’s face evokes a nauseous feeling, you are in luck my friend. Brand spanking new avatars featuring Killzone 3, Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption are now available. A perfect rebound.

By setting a first-person shooter in the future, you have licence to be creative with your game’s weapons and gadgets. We’re surprised more developers don’t take full advantage of this; so many seem content with simply tweaking the design of your everyday assault rifle. Clearly, the team at Crytek is made from more ambitious stock. Sure, shotguns and assault rifles are both present, but Crysis 2 also has nanosuits, electrostatic cables and even hologram decoys. Now that’s more like it.

What if a game excels in the gameplay department but is lacking in practically all other aspects? Could the game still be great despite it’s obvious flaws? Maybe you could even learn to love it for it’s shortcomings. Those of you that played Earth Defense Force 2017 know exactly what we’re talking about.
