Red Faction: Armageddon presents Infestation Mode; tell your friends

5577infestation 06A Red Faction: Armageddon presents Infestation Mode; tell your friendsComing up on May 31 in the US and June 3 in the UK Red Faction: Armageddon, the third installment of the franchise, will be released to a into the wild.

Fans of the multiplayer features in Red Faction: Guerilla will find that the philosophy regarding online gameplay will have a much different feel to it this time around.

When most people think about multiplayer, MMOs excluded, it conjures up thoughts of silencing thy fellow gamer in a competitive arena or purhaps tossing a controller or two in disgust. Red Faction: Armadeggon will try to quell the infighting between players so that they focus exclusively on their common alien foes.

In an interesting if not polarizing move the game’s developer, Volition, has decided not to include a competitive online multiplayer mode. In its place will be ‘Infestation Mode’, a survival mode in which up to four players will fend of wave after wave of swarming enimies. In many respects a multiplayer mode which looks very remniscent to that which has been established in Microsoft exclusives Gears of War 2 and Halo: Reach.

Absolutley integral to a sucessful playthrough in ‘Infestation Mode’ will be the timely use of the Nano Forge. Basically what gamers have in the Nano Forge is a multifaceted weapon that can aid a party in many ways. Aliens destroy your structures? Need some time to breath inside the safety of a dome shield? The Nano Forge has you covered.

What do you think of the decision to completely exclude competitive mulitplayer in lieu of Infestation Mode?
