Gotham City Imposters Logo e1305642764419 Gotham City Impostors takes Batman in a new directionFirst person shooter is probably one of the least likely ways you could think of to describe a game featuring our beloved Dark Knight but that is exactly where Monolith Productions, the same development team behind the F.E.A.R. franchise, is heading.

Scheduled as a download-only title, Gotham City Impostors takes you to Gotham City where two opposing factions are battling it out for control of the city. There are the Bats, taking after the likeness of Batman, and there are the Jokerz, taking after the likeness of the Joker.

Players will be able to customize their own vigilante or villain with a variety of costumes, gadgets, and weapons based upon the DC Comics franchise.

“Gotham City Impostors blows apart expectations for superhero games with an exaggerated take on first person shooters, set in a part of the DC Universe players have never seen before,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.  “Monolith is creating a game that turns Gotham City upside down and we think fans are going to have a blast with this creative twist on multiplayer heroism and anti-heroism as they play up the classic rivalry between Batman and The Joker.”

The game sounds similar to Team Fortress 2 with characters’ various roles and abilities. It’ll be interesting to see what Monolith does with the Batman franchise, after all, he isn’t one to rush into a fight guns blazing. Still, it’ll be nice to have something to occupy our time while we wait for Arkham City.
