Resistance 3 Crosses Abbey Road

Submitted by on Friday, 8 July 20113 Comments

After his success delivering the epic score for Insomniac Games’ Resistance 2, Boris Salchow, an L.A based film composer is returning for the third game in the series. He will be recording at London’s famous Abbey Road Studios.

Resistance 3 will focus on a far darker aesthetic to reflect the increased threat mankind faces from the invading Chimera, whilst continuing to represent the alternate 1950s setting that players will be accustomed to.

“For Resistance 3 we required a composer who would be able to interpret the nuance of mankind’s struggle for survival in a brutal world and create an engaging and emotive score. Boris spent many hours at our studio becoming familiar with the story, meeting with several key members of the development team and immersing himself in our process and culture. The soundtrack that Boris composed is compelling and a perfect fit for the game.  We consider it to be a key part of the overall Resistance 3 experience.” Paul Mudra, Audio Director, Insomniac Games

It is reassuring to see developers continue to prioritise videogame scores, an element that has rarely been neglected in the film industry. Indeed, the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards continues to honour original music.

Marcus Smith, Creative Director at Insomniac Games recognises the importance of music, not only as an atmospheric tool, but as a method of conducting elements of story, pacing and characterisation. He said:

“The soundtrack he (Salchow) delivered is stunning in its intricacy, delicacy and humanity.”

The composer himself described his joy at being able to work at Abbey Road.

“Going to London and recording this music with such incredible A-list musicians at this historical venue was the perfect match for the game, and it was an incredible honor for me personally. I am very thankful that Insomniac made this happen.”

Resistance 3 will be released for PlayStation 3 on September 6th, 2011.
