The world of Deus Ex: Human Revolution is closer than you might think

Submitted by on Saturday, 27 August 20113 Comments

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is set in the year 2027 and features biomechanical augmentations that allow humans to essentially transcend their physical bodies and execute tasks that would otherwise seem impossible. While Deus Ex may take place in a fictional world, the technology present in it isn’t as far fetched as you might think.

People living today use augmentations themselves to replace lost limbs or in Rob Spence’s case, a lost eye, to do many of the daily tasks we perform without as much as a thought. Sure, these robotic enhancements may not provide them with increased strength or the ability to see through walls like Adam Jensen but the technology is progressing to a point at which that may soon be possible.

To celebrate the launch of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Square Enix commissioned Spence to put together a documentary on prosthetics and human augmentation. It’s an interesting look into the world of cybernetics and definitely worth a watch.

What do you think, will the technology seen in Deus Ex: Human Revolution really be accessible in the year 2027? Give us your thoughts in the comments below!
