The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – inside the development studio
Find out what both excites and ‘terrifies’ the accomplished team about the development of their epic.
As gamers we are spoiled in that we tend to bear a disproportionate amount of the cost necessary to provide us with many of our favorite games. Much of the time the origins of the product never factor into a buying decision.
However from time to time we are given peeks behind the curtain to see the incredible undertaking that is game development and nobody in the industry builds a bigger experience than the team at Bethesda Games Studios.
As it is in their previous titles (Fallout 3, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, etc.) the primary gameplay tenet of Skyrim is player choice. What that inevitably translates into for the development team is an exponentially greater workload.
“…the player is free to interpret everything on their own…That’s what’s great about the game and that’s what as developers here is terrifying about the game.” – Bethesda Game Studios
The amount of sheer man-hours logged in order to pull a game like Skyrim off is simply staggering. At the very least we know that Bethesda put a tremendous measure of work into the development into their upcoming fantasy epic. And with such a prestigious reputation preceding them, gamers have reason to be excited.
