New 1999 Mode coming to BioShock Infinite
Irrational Games has announced a new “1999 Mode” will be coming to BioShock Infinite, forcing players to “pick specializations, and focus on them” in one of the most demanding environment.
The new mode gets its name presumably because it’ll feel like the player will be playing a game out of 1999. You know, back when the game wasn’t auto-saving every few minutes and every decision you made in the game greatly impacted your playthrough.
1999 Mode will feature a demanding gaming experience for players, one that will force them to strategize every choice in the game and every path they take. No doubt skill will play an important role too, as you’ll have to specialize in your skills and weaponry. According to Irrational Games’ official blog, this isn’t just some higher difficulty level.
“We want to give our oldest and most committed fans an option to go back to our roots,” said Levine. “In 1999 Mode, gamers face more of the permanent consequences of their gameplay decisions. In BioShock Infinite, gamers will have to sweat out the results of their actions. In addition, 1999 Mode will demand that players pick specializations, and focus on them.”
From the sound of things, it looks like BioShock Infinite will give Demon’s/Dark Souls a run for their money in terms of difficulty. What do you think, are games too easy this generation? How different from being just another level of difficulty do you think it’ll be? Let us know in the comments!
